“If you haven’t heard about it yet, you will; and it’s definitely worth the trip! It’s a spectacular space.” Richard Bondarowicz, Principal, Smart Builders, commenting on a recent visit to RH Chicago, The Gallery at the Three Arts Club.
Last week RH (Restoration Hardware) opened the doors of a gigantic flagship building in Chicago’s residential Gold Coast neighborhood. The Three Arts Club is a 70,000 square foot building which was built in 1914. Today, the six-story building includes a café and wine tasting room, a music venue, a courtyard (open year-round), a roof garden, and, of course, a series of design areas and show floors.
In the courtyard, topped with a steel-and-glass pyramid, seating and tables gather around a historic fountain, crowned by a rococo crystal chandelier. With sunlight streaming in from above, it proves a lovely setting for the café.
In the wine bar area, the building’s original barrel-vaulted ceilings were restored to their original condition. The bar surface is a 6,000-pound stone slab.
On the second floor, the 3,000-square-foot design area offers interior decorators and architects access to RH’s library of fabrics, leather, and furniture finishes, with a sprawling table where they can conceptualize projects and meet with clients.
